On the 6th of November in the American Museum of National History, the Council of Fashion Designers of America held its annual awards ceremony. They were hosted by Anne Hathaway, stepping in for Sarah Jessica Parker.
The awards ceremony celebrates the best of American fashion. It presents various awards including honors in, media, innovation, and environmental sustainability as well as celebrating emerging designers, lifetime achievements, and a fashion icon award. Amongst the winners were Serena Williams who received the Fashion Icon Award and Kim Kardashian who took home the innovation award.
The awards were sponsored by Amazon Fashion for the second year in a row, which could be seen as rather controversial considering Amazon’s contribution to climate pollution! The fashion industry has been instrumental to climate change and pollution, however, the environmental sustainability award was presented to designer Mara Hoffman, who is selective in sourcing recyclable materials and sourcing textiles that are significantly less harmful to our planet such as regenerated nylon and polyester.
In attendance was a plethora of style icons such as Chloë Sevigny and Devon Lee Carlson as well as acclaimed designers, Vera Wang, Thom Browne, and Ireland’s own JW Anderson, who took home the International Designer award, táimid comh bródúil as!
