In recent months, Ireland has witnessed a huge revival of its language and cultural identity. Whether it’s the rise of Irish bands like Kneecap and Fontaines D.C or the increasing presence of Irish actors, like Barry Keoghan on our screens, there is no doubt that our nation’s cultural pride is stronger than ever. This resurgence isn’t just confined to music and film—it’s also making its mark in fashion. Young designers across the country are redefining Irish style, blending tradition with innovation to create pieces that resonate with our generation. Supporting Irish brands and designers, big or small, is more important than ever. By investing in local designers, we are not only celebrating Irish creativity but also sustaining small businesses and fostering a thriving fashion industry within our own communities. For students and young fashion lovers looking to invest in unique designs, here are three exciting brands that are shaping the future of Irish fashion:
1. MNW Design
MNW Design is a fashion brand that redefines Irish heritage with a bold, modern vision. Specialising in baby tees, vest tops, and scarves adorned with a gorgeous, glittering Claddagh motif, the brand blends tradition with modernity while creating wearable art that celebrates love, loyalty, and friendship. Inspired by Irish culture and streetwear aesthetics, each piece is designed to make a statement – whether it’s through glitter embellishing, vibrant colours, or unexpected details. This brand is perfect for those who want to embrace their culture in a fresh and stylish way. You can find their work at @mnw_design on Instagram or at mnw.ie online.
2. Marmala
Marmala is a fashion brand inspired by bold femininity and the beauty of people’s everyday stories expressed through their designs. Inspired by designers such as Simone Rocha and Cecilie Bahnsen, Marmala creates beautiful and unique, handcrafted bags that are guaranteed to make a bold statement. Drawing from the opulence of Victorian fashion and the dynamic movement of water, the designer creates unique, layered pieces that embrace individuality and encourage authenticity. With a love for unexpected designs, the creative process is an evolving journey, where each step sparks the next idea. You can find their work on Instagram @marmala__ and at various markets around Dublin.
3. MadebyFodhla
For those who love sustainability and ethical fashion, MadebyFodhla’s designs are perfect for you. MadebyFodhla’s designs range from ties, scrunchies, and beautiful handmade lace tops. MadebyFodhla draws inspiration from the world around them – particularly from the growing issue of fast fashion and overconsumption. This motivates MadebyFodhla to repurpose existing fabrics, deconstructing old garments to create new and unique pieces that are built to last in your wardrobe for years! These designs can be worn on multiple occasions – dressed up or dressed down, emphasising the importance of accessories as a key form of self-expression. You can find their handmade creations and custom orders on Depop and on Instagram @madebyfodhla.

The Winner of the Project Young Designer Competition
This year, our DCU’s Project Young Designer Competition crowned April Lily as its champion. Her designs stood out for their bold, beautiful shapes, striking silhouettes, and for April’s innovative use of fabric. After attending an open day at Sallynoggin and discovering their fashion course, April fell in love with fashion design. Her passion has led her to further study fashion design at the Grafton Academy. Through her daring design style, April focuses on empowering the wearer of her designs to “claim their space while feeling beautiful doing so.” People can support her work by following her on Instagram @april.lily.design, where you can stay updated on her wonderful projects. When asked about the future of Irish fashion, April claimed that it will be an exciting road ahead. She believes that with Ireland’s rich heritage and the emerging talent that surrounds her at Grafton, the future of Irish fashion is more exciting than ever.
